UGB uncertain about publishing Part-I results

MALDA, 8 DEC.: The authorities of the University of Gour Banga (UGB) are not sure whether they will be able to publish the results of Part-I examinations of BA, B Sc and B Com, including honours subjects, on 10 December. The students’ organisations, mainly the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has threatened to begin continuous agitation from 11 December if UGB does not publish results on 10 December, as scheduled. The SFI leaders alleged that students have become habituated to get their results within 90 days but the new university failed to publish the results even after five moths. The SFI had submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor of UGB, Prof Gopa Datta, a few days ago. While addressing the deputation from SFI, Prof Datta ensured the leaders that they were trying hard to publish the results and that it would be published on 10 December. The SFI leaders told the UGB authorities that they would stage continuous agitation in front of the VC's chamber from 11 December, if the results are not published. When contacted, the controller of examination, UGB, Mr C Basu said: “I would not comment on publication of results, when vice-chancellor has already briefed the media”. Mr Basu also said: “We are trying hard to publish the results soon but it would be difficult to say whether the results would be published on 10 December.” Prof Datta, VC, UGB, told the reporters earlier that they were trying to publish the results and it would be published soon. “Publication of results is a secrete matter and I should not speak much on the matter,” she added. “The UGB authorities said that they were in no position to publish results owing to lack of staff. But why should students suffer due to the university's internal problems,” said Mr Joy Chakraborty, the district secretary of the SFI. “If any student does not pass Part-I exam what he will do after five months," the student-leader, Joy Chakraborty asked. ;SNS
