‘Treaty’ to conclude turf war

Statesman News Service

MALDA, 21 DEC: Malda police have been finally able to conclude a “treaty” between two gang leaders Mr Asadullah Biswas, a CPI-M party member, and Mr Tuhur Ali Biswas, a local Congress leader, to bring upon peace in the locality. After the arrests made last week, both the party leaders are under police custody and they have been shifted to Malda district hospital owing to their illness. “To bring peace at Majampur and Narayanpur villages we are trying to make an ‘alliance’ between the two accused. They have spoken to each other already and have confessed many things. Both of them had grievances against each other. Mr Ali Biswas was in a vengeance after the murders of his brother and son,” the Malda SP Mr Bhuban Mandal said “Both of them have assured us that they would try to maintain peace in their villages and would help police in tracking their followers involved in crimes, who had already fled, to surrender soon,” the Malda SP added. The two leaders and their gangs had turned the Majampur and adjoining areas in the district into a wild west vying for the right of illegal trade with Bangladesh. The Malda SP said police had already completed interrogation and said that there was no need to seek permission from the court to remand them in police custody. “I shall try my best to restore peace in the district,” Mr Mandal said.
