Film for a prospective food hub ~ Malda

MALDA, 30 NOV: Identifying Malda's potentials for developing into a food processing centre, the Malda district magistrate, Mr Sridhar Ghosh, has urged Dr T Ramasami, secretary Union science and technology department to make a documentary film focusing the problems, potential and prospect of food processing clusters in Malda district.


In a letter to Dr Ramasami, on 10 November, Mr Ghosh said: “The Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) may be allowed to prepare a documentary film to spot the prospect of food processing clusters in Malda.”


The DM also pointed out that the deputy director, agriculture (fruits), government of West Bengal, would coordinate the preparation of the documentary film.


“We would send you the name of the film maker once we receive your approval in principle for the commissioning of the documentary film, budget and scope of the film,” he wrote.


According to the DM, the Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) has identified Malda district for food processing centre.


He has also suggested organising continuous training and awareness programmes at the local level involving experts and a feasibility study for establishing a pulp processing cum aseptic pulp packaging plant at the Malda Food Park and supporting research, academic activities related to Food Processing Technology in the local university.
