Prohibitory order imposed on nine Malda villages

MALDA, 6 DEC: Prohibitory order Section 144 CrPC has been imposed in nine villages including Majampur and Narayanpur under Kaliachak police station from yesterday.


The Malda sub-divisional officer, Mr Prakash Pal said that following fresh clashes between two groups of criminals, the prohibitory order was imposed on the areas which would continue up to 12 December.


Though the administration was able to bring the situation under control temporarily by holding a series of peace meetings with the vilagers a few days ago, a fresh turf war broke out between the groups on Friday evening which killed one local and injured many others.In the past three months, eight persons were killed due to clashes between two groups.


Police still could not arrest the two leaders of the criminals who are beleived to be belonging from Narayanpur and Majampur.


Mr Asadullah Biswas, belonging to the CPI-M and Mr Tuhur Biswas, belonging to the Congress, are fighting each other with their forces to take control over the illegal trades including cattle smuggling which are extensively prevalent along the India-Bangladesh border.


The sub-divisional officer Mr Prakash Pal said: “Prohibitory order may be continued after 12 December if the law and order situation remains unchanged”.
