DI to probe school fund crunch

Statesman News Service

MALDA, 25 DEC : The Malda district inspector (DI) of secondary schools Mr Chinmay Sarkar seized all papers including cash book from Khutadaha RC High School yesterday to inquire into the alleged financial irregularities against school authorities following the complaints lodged by the local people including guardians.

The Bamongola block development officer Mr Anjan Ghosh sealed the office room of the school when the local people staged agitation and confined the school authorities including the new head master and the former teacher in charge on Wednesday till 11.30 pm.

Mr Sarkar said: “The newly appointed headmaster Mr C S Choube, recommended by the SSC, joined the school four months ago; but the school authorities did not take initiative to hand over charges to him”. Mr Choube was facing trouble to run the school without financial charges after joining the school. The former teacher in charge and the secretary of the school could not reply satisfactorily on this issue, Mr Sarkar said.

According to him, the school authorities could not give satisfactory answers about the utilization of funds of Rs 3.70 lakh allotted from Sarba Shiksha Mission for the construction of school building. Other financial irregularities have been found. The school authorities withdrew funds but allegedly did not utilize them on time.

“I will ask the new headmaster to assume charges soon. Stern action will be taken against the school authorities after thorough investigation”, Mr Sarkar said.

Yesterday the DI interacted with the local people, including teachers for teacher in charge and the secretary of the school.
