Malda administration envisages developing infrastructure

MALDA, 10 DEC: The Malda district administration has already braced itself up for Panchayat Yuba Krida Aur Khel Abhijan (PYKKA), a state level sports meet that will be held here soon. Central government has taken up initiative to host such meets at all levels of the state. In Malda, the district youth department has asked the block officials to organise such meets selecting at least five events out of the list in PYKKA. The youth department in Malda will also organise district level sports meet based on 10 events selected from the PYKKA list on 19 December, where successful participants at the block level will take part. The successful candidates at the district level will take part in the state level meet, said in-charge of the district youth department, Mr Biswajit Ghosh, who is also the regional transport officer (RTO) here.Apart from this, the district has selected two blocks ~ English Bazaar and Gazole ~ where sports ground will be upgraded. A total of 31 gram panchayats in this district have been selected for development of sports. Under the PYKKA the district will distribute sports materials to each gram panchayat for youths who are interested to take part in sports. In each block one Kridashree will be appointed among the local senior and talented sportsmen, who will train the local youths in sports. The Central government took initiative in 2001 to bring development in sports in the rural areas but this project was introduced this year, Mr Ghosh said. Though the Centre provides funds for implementing PYKKA, the state bears a particular share of total funds allotted in the district, he added. ;SNS
