MALDA, 14 DEC: CID officials today detained Israil Sheikh of Bihar, from Ajibnagar village under Harishchandrapur police station in connection with the shooting of a GRP personnel aboard the Katihar-Malda passenger train on 11 December. The criminals had fled with two rifles and cartridges of the victim GRP jawan and his companion. According to the Malda SP, Mr Bhuban Mandal, CID special superintendent Mr S Maity and his forces are still raiding some villages in search of the criminals involved. It is learnt that one Azad Sheikh, who is a wanted criminal in the record of Bihar police, is absconding after the incident. Israil was found in the house of Sheikh. The Malda SP, Mr Mandal, said a group of dacoits was travelling in the same compartment in which the GRP jawans were. The criminals attacked them before they could act against them. ;SNS
CPM leader held MALDA, 14 DEC: Acting on a tip-off Malda police arrested a CPI-M party member, Asadullah Biswas, who is also the Majampur gram panchayat member, during a raid at a hiding place under Kaliachak police station this night. Biswas was a gang leader of a criminals’ group in Majampur and was among the most wanted people here. ;SNS Bombs seized MALDA, 14 DEC: Police recovered two muskets and six bags of crude bombs from Majampur area under Kaliachak police station during raids last night. The police are conducting raids in the area to arrest criminals fighting over the right to illegal trade to Bangladesh. ;SNS
