Malda NVF cops suspended over clash

MALDA, 11 DEC: Police administration in Malda has suspended three constables and demobilised 15 NVFs for dereliction of duty during the Majampur hostilities over the past two days, the Malda SP, Mr Bhuban Mandal said today. According to the SP, the ASP, Mr Kalyan Mukherjee had been asked to prepare a report on the police's role vis a vis the Majampur situation. “The action has been taken on the basis of the ASP's report on the subject. The suspended persons were found reluctant to arrest the criminals,” the SP added. Two groups of criminals exchanged fire and hurled bombs injuring two innocent people on Wednesday and set some huts on fire. The criminals also shot three policemen yesterday following which the police arrested three of the criminals. They were remanded to police custody for five days.“We will interrogate them to get more information and arrest the others involved including the main criminals of both groups,” the SP said. According to him, the situation was now under control but raids would continue for the wanted criminals.Majampur erupted in a series of clash between CPI-M and Congress controlled criminals a few months ago over the right to illegal trade with Bangladesh. The police are yet to arrest the kingpins. ;SNS
