Two injured in fresh clashes in Malda

MALDA, 9 DEC: Despite imposition of prohibitory orders, Section 144 Cr PC, in nine villages including Majampur and Narayanpur in Kaliachak police station a clash broke out between two criminal groups of the two villages early today.Two ‘innocent’ persons were injured during clash. Sheikh Rahim (28), resident of Imam-Jaigir village, was shot at. He received injuries on his leg. He was later admitted to Malda district hospital. The incident happened when he was on the way to work this morning. One Asfaque Ali (60) was attacked by a group with a sharp weapon, when he was one way the to his paddy field this morning. He was admitted to a private nursing home. Fire spread in neighbouring villages like Haruchak due to hurling of bombs and fire brigade had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control.Though administration was able to bring the situation under control temporarily by holding series of ‘peace’ meetings with the villagers a few days ago, a fresh clash broke out since Friday evening in which one person was killed and several others were injured. The administration had to impose Section 144 Cr PC on 5 December. The order will remain in force till 12 December and may be extended if the situation remains unchanged, said Malda SDO Mr Prakash Pal. Senior police officials visited the spot after clash broke out today.
