Arsenic free water after seven days!

MALDA, Dec. 2: The public health engineering department finally has been able to restore the supply of arsenic-free drinking water today after repairing several leakages in pipelines and faults in treatment plants.

In the last seven days thousands of people in Manikchak, Kaliachak II and partly English Bazaar were not able to get drinking water due to the suspension of water supply. Residents today called up PHE top officials demanding water supply. The district magistrate was also informed about it three days back. According to the executive engineer, Mr Swapan Maitra, pipe lines were damaged in several places at Mathurapur in Manikchak block.

The supply of water to other boosting pump stations from the main treatment plant was also disrupted due to leakage of pipe line at Dharampur in Manikchak. Due to leakage in four places, water supply to Niamatpur and Doulatpur boosting pumping stations in English Bazaar were affected. However, The Doulatpur pumping station, near polytechnic, in English Bazaar had not been able too supply drinking waters for the last seven days in three zones in English Bazaar including a part of municipal area in Malda town. According to Mr Swapan Miatra, the executive engineer, PHE, arsenic division in northern zone, water supply was disrupted in Kaliachak-II areas since a section of people had damaged water pipes. n SNS
