Ballot by post !

MALDA, Dec. 10: The election commission has decided to send ballot by registered post to the houses of the drivers and other staffs of the vehicles that would be engaged in the election duty.

The decision was taken to avoid malpractice by a group of trade Union leaders backed by political parties. Speaking to the reporters here, today, the state chief electoral official, Mr Debasish Sen, said: “Usually a lot of ballot were sent to the trade Union offices for the workers engaged in polling duty. But henceforth it would be sent to their home addresses”.

He also said that in the earlier system, the trade Union leaders for transport workers allegedly used to force the workers to cast votes according to their instruction, it was often reported that some leaders allegedly used to cast vote on behalf of the workers in favour of their preferred candidate. The commission has decided to post ballot for each worker at least 12 days before the date of election so that they can cast their votes independently, he added.
