Land found for Navadaya Vidyalaya

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Dec. 12: The district administration has selected a plot of land for setting up Navadaya Vidyalaya, a co-educational residential institute, in Old Malda village.

The additional district magistrate (general), Mr PC Sit, said that the administration had finally found a plot of about 13 acres at Syedpur village in Old Malda and asked the commissioner of land department for permission to use the land for Navadaya Vidyalaya.

“We are waiting for the approval from the land department. If we get the permission we would inform the authorities concerned to start workingon the project,” Mr Sit said.

It may be noted that a year ago the district had received the proposal for setting up a residential school. The authorities had asked the administration to offer a temporary building to start the work of the institute and then provide a suitable land free of cost. However, the district administration had been facing problems finding a suitable plot of land for this purpose.

According to district land and land revenue departmental officials, the identified land was a cremation ground at Syedpur village in the records.

Since the district land and land reforms department cannot change the records, the administration has proposed the department to change the nature of the land.

The district administration has also suggested to keep at least 5 to 7 decimal land for the purpose for cremation to avoid any controversy in future.

However, the land department is yet to approve the plan. The district administration had selected a part of temporary building at Shymsukhi Girls’ High School at Gazol from where the initial functioning of the institute could be started.

Recently, the newly appointed principal for Malda Navadaya Vidyalaya from Katihar, Bihar, and other officials visited the selected plot of land and the building. They told the district administrative officials that they would be able to start the work of the Vidyalaya at the selected building only when the administration earmarks the land for Navadaya Vidyalaya and hand it over to them.
