P M visit plan confuses officials

MALDA, Dec 3: The Prime Minister's visit has reportedly left everybody confused here since yesterday.

A few days ago, it was confirmed that PM Dr. Manmohan Singh would not attend any public rally in Sujapur after curtailing his visit from two hours to one hour in Malda on 7 December.

But this afternoon the district magistrate told reporters that the PM would address a public meeting at Sujapur on 7 December, where assembly by-polls is scheduled to be held on 27 December.

According to the PM's schedule that reached Malda district magistrate office this afternoon, the PM would arrive at Sujapur about 11.05 a.m. He would be coming from Purnia in a helicopter and from Sujapur he would go to the house of late ABA Ghani Khan Choudhury by road.

It was also stated that a minister (either Mr Sailen Sarkar or Mr Abdus Sattar), on behalf of the state government, would receive Dr Manmohan Singh at Sujapur helipad.

But till this evening, the top officials of the Malda police said: “There is only one programme of the PM at Katowali, house of late ABA Ghani Khan Choudhury, in English Bazaar”.

According to police, he would go to Purnia on a plane from Kolkata and would come on a helicopter which would take off around 10 a.m. on 7 December.

The Malda district magistrate, Mr. Sridhar Ghosh, told The Statesman: “Everything would be finalised tomorrow by the Special Protection Group of the PM. The SPG officials will be coming here tomorrow”.
