MALDA, Dec. 4: The district administration has been going through a rough patch in constructing a helipad for the PM visit because of some of the contractors.
The PWD had floated tender for the helipad construction at Kotwali and other necessary arrangements for security measures estimating its expenditure to be Rs 3.60 lakh. But the executive engineer had to cancel the tender when he found that contractors submitted a way high estimated cost of helipad and others jobs. Interestingly, hundreds of contractors were united and all of them submitted their papers showing the estimated cost to be more than Rs 14 lakh. The district magistrate had to take initiative of constructing the helipad after the executive engineer informed him of the matter.
The security officials today conducted a trail run of copter's landing after having grazed a portion of field. The PM will be coming to Kolkata on 6 December to attend the convocation of the central university in Santiniketan. n SNS
