SPG inspect sites ahead of PM's visit

MALDA, Dec. 4: Special Protection Group members and police officials today inspected the late ABA Ghani Khan Choudhury's residence and adjoining areas prior to the Prime Minister's visit to Malda on 7 December. The security officials also conducted a helicopter trial run.

Intelligence Bureau IG of north Bengal Mr Gourab Dutta was present at the site to coordinate with the SPG. The SPG reportedly informed the Malda MP, Mr AH Khan Choudhury today that the PM would stay at his residence for 25 minutes.

It is still uncertain whether the PM would land at Sujapur where Assembly by-poll is scheduled on 27 December. Though the district magistrate yesterday got a message that the PM would land at Sujapur and then travel to Kotwali by road, security officials today unofficially informed that the PM's programme at Sujapur has been cancelled for security reasons.

Police in the meanwhile have stepped up vigilance on roads, railway stations, hotels, the bordering villages and other suspected places. The Intelligence officials are coordinating with the BSF to keep a strict watch along the Bangladesh border.
