Sujapur camp 'ransacked'

MALDA, Dec. 19: Tension prevails in the Sujapur Assembly area after a CPI-M camp office was ransacked this morning. The by-poll is slated to be held on the 27 December.

While the CPI-M held the Congress responsible for the act, the Congress leadership termed the incident as a CPI-M gimmick. The CPI-M district secretary, Mr Jiban Moitra, said that fearing defeat in the by-poll the Congress was trying to instigate the CPI-M supporters. According to Mr Moitra, goons and aide of Saharul, who is in jail, were trying to create tension in the area for their vested interests.

He further said that Congress supporters had damaged a part of the Sujapur Girls’ High School this morning, over a land dispute before the elections to create panic. Police said that the CPI-M and Congress supporters have been having frequent altercations since morning. Festoons, banners and flags of CPI-M were damaged in the ransacking.

Though the CPI-M said that an FIR had been lodged with the Kaliachak police after the incident, the IC Kaliachak, PS Mr ML Lodh said: “I am at Sujapur and do not have the information.” n SNS
