MALDA, Dec. 3: Malda police arrested a KLO man, Haresh Burman, from Bamongola police station area late last night on charges of extortion in local areas.
Police today produced him in court seeking that he should be remanded in police custody so that he could be interrogated more and in a better way.
According to police, he was extorting money from the local people so that he could release some other KLO men lodged in different jails. Interestingly, the Malda police got the information on the basis of the complaint from Malkhan Singh, a KLO activist, from Malda jail. He was arrested a few years ago in Pakuahat. Malkhan had informed police that Haresh was collecting money from people telling them that huge amount of money was required to release Malkhan from Malda jail.
According to police, Haresh is still linked to some KLO activists in hide outs. n SNS
