Maoist menace on the rise

MALDA, Dec. 25: A government railway police personnel was killed and five others including a woman passenger were injured in Maoist attacks on a train near Bhagalpur, Bihar, this evening, the Malda divisional railway manager Mr Anup Sahu said. More than 12 Maoist activists attacked GRP personnel aboard the Bhagalpur-Majaffarpur Inter-city Express train in an attempt to loot rifles from them. They opened fire indiscriminately in the train, he said. According to the Malda DRM, the Maoists boarded the train and fled pulling chain after committing the crime between Avaypur and Kajra stations under Malda Railway Division (Eastern Railway). The inured woman passenger was admitted in the Keewul hospital. “Train services were not affected,” Mr Sahu, said. n SNS
