JeM infiltration : BSF hints at action against those guilty

MALDA, Dec. 24: The apprehension of three Jaish-e-Mohammad militants in Kashmir on 21 December who allegedly entered the country through the Bangladesh border in Malda district, has made the BSF sit up. It is now talking of action against its own if found with dereliction of duty in guarding the border.

Since last evening, embarrassed BSF officials are trying hard for information about the exact location of the border in Malda district through which the militants crossed over. They are also trying to identify the jawans responsible for guarding the possible spots used by the militants “It is a serious matter for the security of the country. We have asked our higher authorities to tell us the exact location of the border used by the JeM militants. Action would be taken against those responsible for guarding the spot,” said the DIG, Malda, BSF sector, Mr P S Tomar. The DIG further added that the BSF believes that the militants entered with local help. According to Mr Tomar, out of the 172 km stretch of border the district shares with Bangladesh, nearly 40 per cent is porous and unfenced because a large part of the border are low lying areas and riverine. Mr Tomar said that he spoke to the IG, BSF, South Bengal sector, Mr C V Murlidhar last night and held a meeting with the Malda SP about the matter. n SNS
